Giving line workers the power to make their own decisions

Improved existing designs in just a few days to give workers on the factory floor the power to make their own decisions during production. Made for both large T.Vs and desktop monitor sized screens.

Collaborated with frontend and backend teams during the design process.

My Work

  1. Conducted research by walking around the plant floor observing how often workers actually use these screens, asked how helpful they truly were while seeking out UI/UX issues with the existing screens.

  2. Updated existing designs to a new refresh based on changing needs and previous issues.

  3. Developed small and large screen versions for the plant floor, and in-office use.

  4. Participated in pair design-development sessions to make real-time changes during testing.

Problems

Some screens were too dim, didn’t have the plastic removed prohibiting a clear view, and casing on the monitor cut off some of the design as shown below.

Casing on the display cuts off key information on the screen

Tool Room Screen

A similar screen was made for workers assembling the tools needed to produce certain parts on the plant floor. This screen was updated from what used to be just an excel sheet displayed on a TV.

Below you will see what the tool room screen looked like before. It was challenging for users to read, had information unnecessary for the tool makers and wasn’t able to fit at the necessary part numbers per work center.
